WE PUT “FUN” IN FUNDRAISING! Formally, and formerly, known as Ways and Means, we have organized a new and vibrant Fundraising Committee at Temple Judea that is looking into programs, events and measures that will not only fortify the Temple’s financial well being, but will add fun and excitement to being a member of the synagogue. Several meetings have taken place over the summer at which more than 20-30 different ideas were put on the table on both short and long-term agendas. It is our hope that additional funds will be raised not only by the generous, unsolicited donations made by members and benefactors, but also by the participation of congregants and components of the surrounding community in what we plan to offer. What have we discussed and what might there be ahead? We have already made it possible to win a shorter and easier entranceway into our building on the High Holidays and Shabbat services. The Temple is raffling a parking spot in the front entrance circle that will be personalized for a member over the next year! In the future, it is our hope that golf enthusiasts, along with their families and guests, will be able to enjoy a friendly day of tournament play followed by a sumptuous dinner and a fun evening. Between holding these two events, we are already looking into plans for auctions, shopping days at local establishments, theme dances (anyone ready for a square dance or greaser evening?), the sale of discounted tickets to several events at local venues like the Tilles Center, and a giant “garage sale”, in the parking lot, of members’ household items (don’t throw away that old bedroom furniture just yet!) There still remain several time-honored means that allow congregants to help fund our Temple while acknowledging and honoring close friends and family members at various life cycle events. For only $180, a leaf on the Tree of Life can be purchased to celebrate a meaningful occasion. Take a picture of your child pointing to the leaf that commemorates his or her bar/bat mitzvah! Is there a graduation, an anniversary, or any happy event you want to acknowledge? When you sit in the sanctuary, look at the back of your seat - is there a pew plaque there honoring someone’s Temple involvement or memory? They can be purchased for a mere $250. Finally, there comes that time of year when we think of those family members who are no longer with us, and to pay tribute to them, a lit memorial plaque can be placed on the sanctuary wall through a donation that can be arranged through our office. New ideas coupled with traditional concepts . . . that is the foundation upon which our Fund Raising Committee is basing its short and long term plans. You can help make this a success by contributing not only your time and money, but also your thoughts. Join us! Plan ahead for your family’s Jewish life! As the title says, fundraising can be fun here at Temple Judea.
